The use of more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother, and is often done for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so the repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause harm as easily. In addition to the above upgrades players can also acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be freely swapped, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs are like jewelry and can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs are also removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, aren't swappable and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Trinkets Trinkets can provide your hero with many small, but beneficial benefits. They are available in the start-up area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained from vendors as well as through doing road interaction. They can also be made by jewelers, and then found or purchased from the Trading Post. The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but valuable boost in movement speed and evasion. The player will then be able to acquire necklaces, rings, and amulets, in a similar way as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets. These trinkets also grant additional buffs and skills that are active even when the character is not fighting. upgrade item allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of good team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by a hero's top stats. As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics are less significant than the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It is more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones. Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red trinket at the beginning of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand they will select a green or a pink ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.
